DENVER—The Adams State University Softball team opened up the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) portion of the season on Saturday with two losses at Regis. The Grizzlies, now 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in the RMAC, had several opportunities, but ?? runners stranded on the base paths hurt the Grizzly offense.
Game 1: Regis 12, Adams State 5
Adams State opened the scoring as
Jade Garbiso had a clutch two-out double to center field to push
Tyler Hays in from first after she walked.
Regis quickly retaliated, however, as a lead-off triple came in to score. The Rangers then capitalized on a three-run double to make the score 4-1. They would capitalize on a steal of home and a failed pickoff attempt to push the score to 6-1.
Adams State then held the Rangers scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning and chipped into the lead as
Aspen Dufour scored on a fielder's choice in the third and
Sydney Muniz scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.
The Grizzlies scratched across single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but the Rangers scored six more runs including three in the fifth inning to take the opening game.
Adams State was able to get seven hits and three walks in the game while only striking out three times, however, the eight runners that were stranded on the base paths doomed the Grizzlies.
Game 2
The second game started off with the Grizzlies in a five-run hole before they played small ball in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead down to just one run, 5-4. However, Regis was aggressive in the counter as they scored three runs in the bottom half to push the lead up to 8-4.
Despite a single run in the sixth inning and two in the seventh inning, Adams State fell 12-7.
