SB | Grizzlies sweep Yellow Jackets on Thursday

ALAMOSA, Colo.— The 19 mile per hour wind gusts wreaked havoc on the Adams State University doubleheader with Black Hills State on Thursday afternoon, however, the Grizzlies capitalized and came away with their first sweep of the season as they defeated the Yellow Jackets, 11-5 and 13-5. The Grizzlies improve to 3-9 on the season and 3-7 in the RMAC.

Game 1: Adams State 11, Black Hills State 5
Adams State capitalized on four errors by the Yellow Jackets en route to their second win of the season.

After allowing Black Hills State to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, Adams State exploded for seven runs in the bottom half of the inning including a two-run home run by Tyler Hays and a solo jack by Jade Garbiso.

After Black Hills scored two runs in the third, Adams State had a counter as Breck Smith had an electrifying inside-the-park three-run home run to left field. Adams State ten finished off with a sac fly to earn the win.

Jade Garbiso earned the win as she tossed a complete game and allowed four earned runs on ten hits and two walks while tallying eight strikeouts.

Game 2: Adams State 13, Black Hills State 5 (5 inn.)
The second game saw Adams State come out with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Jade Garbiso hit a two-run jack to left field. The Yellow Jackets appeared to have the momentum as they took a 4-2 lead in the top of the second inning.

Adams State retaliated with firepower as they sent 13 players to the plate, tallying seven hits including four doubles and a triple for eight runs and a 10-4 lead.

Adams State then had a two-run single in the fourth before Tyler Hays, almost three years to the date of another walk-off, hit a walk-off home run for the win in the fifth.

Taylor Sandoval earned the win as she had a complete game, allowing five runs on six hits and one walk while earning four strikeouts.
