SB | Grizzlies sweep twin bill, weekend series over Yellow Jackets

ALAMOSA, Colo.—Although timely hitting haunted the Grizzly softball team, Adams State capped off a four-game series with the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets on Friday with a twin bill sweep, 8-5 and 5-4 on Friday. With the win the Grizzlies improve to 5-9 overall and 5-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Game 1: Adams State 8, Black Hills State 5
In the opening game, a rare 10:00 a.m. start, the Grizzlies and Yellow Jackets needed an inning to wake up as a scoreless first led to Adams State taking the leas in the bottom of the second inning with two singles before a five-run bottom of the third inning balanced a single Yellow Jacket run in their half of the third.

Adams State saw their runs come off a double by Belina Vargas before Angeline Mitchell hit a three-run jack to right field and a single from Tayler Duncan.

Black hills scored a single run in the fifth and three in the sixth inning to pull within two runs, 7-5, however, Tyler Hays hit her third home run of the weekend to close out the scoring in the game.

Adams State scored their eight runs on seven hits and two Yellow Jacket errors tacked on to seven walks.

Tayler Duncan earned the win as she pitched 3.2 innings allowing just one run on four hits and two walks while tallying two strikeouts.  Jasmine Garbiso earned her first save of the season as she came in and pitched 1.2 innings with no hits, no walks, and no runs on and struck out two of the five batters she faced.

Game 2: Adams State 5, Black Hills 4
Garbiso's pitching continued into the second game as she earned a complete game win by allowing four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second game and countered a sacrifice fly by the Grizzlies with a homer in the third to take a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth.

Adams State tied the game up at four in the fourth inning as Jade Garbiso singled up the middle before Breck Smith tripled her home and Belinda Vargas grounded out.

With the scored tied at four, Hays, for the second day in a row, sent the Grizzly faithful home happy with her second walk off with a single down the left field line in the bottom of the seventh.
