GOLDEN, COLO.— The Adams State Men's Soccer team finally stepped a foot on the field as they kicked off the opening of their 2021 season this Friday evening. The Grizzlies competed in a match against Colorado School of Mines at the Stermole Soccer Stadium after an intense game the Grizzlies took a fall, 1-0.
The first half of the match began at a steady pace as the ball shifted throughout the field, Grizzlies and Colorado Mines switched back and forth taking possession of the ball. Colorado Mines made their way to the goal but an impressive save by Matthew Burcin kept them from scoring. The Grizzlies played a strong defense preventing Colorado Mines from making any possible attempts towards the goal, ending the first half with a tie score 0-0.
The Grizzlies began the second half taking control of the ball making multiple passes as they tried to get as close to the goal as possible in attempt to score a goal. Colorado Mines eventually found an opening towards the low center of the goal and were able to score setting it at 1-0. The Grizzlies than began to play a bit more aggressively as they became more assertive passing the ball to teammates who were open.
The Orediggers came close to scoring multiple times but Burcin saved the ball each time, the Grizzlies continued to put up a tough fight but took the fall 1-0.
Overall Adams State had one shot during the contest by
Keegan Nelson while Burclin made four saves as the Orediggers had 18 shots in the game.
The ASU men's soccer team will be back in action on March 21 as they take on Colorado State University Pueblo.
