PUEBLO, Colo.—The Adams State Men's Soccer looked forward to building up their season as they hit the pitch on Sunday against CSU Pueblo. The Grizzlies took on the ThunderWolves in a competitive match but took the fall 7-0. Adams State is now 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in the RMAC.
The Grizzlies were ready to play as they began the first half taking possession of the ball. The ThunderWolves attempted to make a shot in the sixth minute of the game but it didn't fall through. ASU kept the ball in play in the center of the field being sharp and assertive as they passed the ball.
The ThunderWolves manage to get a goal in on the 11th minute as they made a penalty kick.
The ball remained in play in Grizzly territory, but the Grizzlies kept the ball out of their goal as they set up a strong defense. The ThunderWolves attempted to make multiple shots but the Grizzlies reacted fast and put a stop to it. Eventually the ThunderWolves were able to make an attack goal on the 18th minute as the Grizzlies trailed 2-0.
ASU continued to play aggressively but remained cautious when passing the ball,
Jarrett Shrum was the first Grizzly to attempt to make a shot in the game at the 28th minute. Despite the Grizzlies strong efforts, the first half ended with the ThunderWolves leading, 3-0.
The Grizzlies came back in the second as they looked forward to switching things around. The intensity began to pick up as the Grizzlies did their best to make their way towards the goal. Nelson Keegan made is way to the goal as he went for a bottom left shot, but the goalkeeper caught the ball. Noil Hayden went for a top right shot on the 50th minute, but the Grizzlies couldn't seem to get the ball in the goal. The Grizzlies continued to put up their best efforts but took a fall to the ThunderWolves 7-0.
Overall, the Grizzlies had five shots during the contest, with six saves defensively. Matthew Burcin had two saves while allowing five goals and Michael Geary, who played 22 minutes made four saves and allowed two goals as the Thunderwolves had 25 shots in the game.
The Grizzlies will be back in action on Friday, March 26 as they make their way to their home turf on the ASU Soccer Field to take on Colorado School of Mines as the match is set to start at 3:00 p.m.
