WSOC | Skyhawks down Grizzlies in Saturday non-conference match

ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Adams State Women's Soccer team continued the opening portion of their season as they hit their home turf on the ASU Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. The Grizzlies took on Fort Lewis Collage Skyhawks in an intense match but took a fall, 4-1.

In the first half of the game the Skyhawks made their way towards the goal early in the game, Ashley Beers was quick on her feet and manage to get a save.  Sydney Wiedeman was able to gain possession of the ball as she made her way to the goal, she was the first Grizzlies to attempt a shot. The game shifted back and forth as the possession of the ball would switch between the Skyhawks and the Grizzlies.

Towards the mid-way point of the first half the Skyhawks managed to score a goal low in the center setting the score 1-0. The Grizzlies began to be more aggressive on defense, but the Skyhawks managed to score another goal ending the first half 2-0.

The Grizzlies began the second half trailing off from the Skyhawks, which rattled up the Grizzlies to be tougher on the field. The ball remained in action in the center portion of the field as both teams kept it out of reach from the goals. The Skyhawks eventually came close to the goal and scored another point.

The Grizzlies were able to switch the score 3-1 in the 70th minute as Jayne Scheiss scored her first goal of the season on a penalty shot.

ASU continued to put up a strong fight but took a fall to the Skyhawks 4-1.

Overall Adams State had four shots during the contest by Jayne Scheiss, Payton Billingham, Sydney Wiedeman, and Lina Hurley while Ashley Beers made five saves as the Skyhawks had 20 shots in the game.

The Grizzlies will be back of the field tomorrow as they open conference play at Colorado State University Pueblo in Pueblo at 2:00 p.m.
