GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Adams State University baseball team played stellar in the opening half of Sunday's nine-inning contest with the No. 2 ranked Colorado Mesa University Mavericks, however, offensive outbursts late in the game saw the Mavericks win 25-1.
The Grizzlies scored the opening run of the game when
Mike Bathauer doubled to left field to score Kolten Bleggi, who was on second.
After a scoreless first inning, the Mavericks scored on a two-out double with a runner on third. The Mavericks then took a lead in the fourth inning with a single run and stranded two runners on base.
The Mavericks took advantage of a Grizzly pitching change as they scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Mavericks added three if the sixth and six in the seventh. They closed out the game with nine in the eighth.
