MBB | Grizzlies fall to Mavericks in RMAC Semis

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Adams State Grizzlies were defeated in the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Semifinals in at No. 1 seeded Colorado Mesa University held at the Brownson Arena. The Grizzlies put up a good battle but fell short 78-66 against the Mavericks.
 
Frederick Jackson sets the Grizzlies off to a good start with a slam dunk. Followed by Nykolas Lange scoring a jumper shot, all within minutes off the tipoff.
 
The Mavericks gained the lead but Destan Williams asserted his shots early on in the game as he continued to rack up points for the Grizzlies. Kaelin Crane jumped in on the action as he scored for the Grizzlies with the assistance of Malik Moore. Crane went for a steal and was able to get the ball to the rim, which set the Grizzlies within one point behind CMU as the score was 24-23.
 
The Grizzlies were in a tied position when there was about four minutes left on the clock of the first half, a free throw shot by Crane put the Grizzlies at a tied game.
 
The Mavericks tried to steal back the lead but Rylan O'Brien came back with a 3-point shot and the Grizzlies took back the lead. The Grizzlies put up a strong defense but trailed off by four points ending the first half, as the Maverick took the lead 32-28.
 
Starting off the second half of the semifinals and with no surprise Jackson had another dunk. The Mavericks continued to hold the lead with a double-digit lead, but the Grizzlies were not willing to back down.
 
The game continued to intensify as Williams and Lange worked together to try and get the ball to the net. 
 
The Mavericks stretched their lead to 45-38, the Grizzlies tried to find a way to switch up their rhythm and close the lead. Crane switches the dynamic as he pushes it up the floor and went for a layup.
 
As the game winded down to the last final minuets Williams made a fade away jumper. The Grizzlies continued to press on defense and try to take a hold of the ball to score more points.
 
The Grizzlies managed close the gap but still trailed off by 12 points and took a fall 78-66 to the Mavericks.
 
The Grizzlies were led by Destan Williams who scored 21 points for the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies also had three other players score in the double digits, which was Jackson 15-points, Crane 13-points, and Lange 10-points.
 
Adams State is 10-9 on the season and will away Selection Sunday to see id they have the outside odds of being selected as an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
