COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The Grizzlies continue the beginning proportion of their season as they took on Colorado College Saturday afternoon at the Washburn Field complex. ASU Men's Lacrosse team took a fall in the second game of their season 22-8 against the Tigers.
Kyle Butler got the Grizzlies off to a good start as he took a low angle shot and made a goal.
Dawson Balabanoff went for another low angle shot and made a goal, which set the Grizzlies in the lead. The Grizzlies did a stellar job connecting in the middle as they were able to make several passes.
In the mid-way point of the first quarter the Tigers made a shot and tied the game 2-2.
Jacob Austin made a goal and broke the tie between the Tigers.
The Tigers take back the lead ending the first quarter as the Grizzlies trailed off 6-3.
In the second quarter
Brendan Williams caused many good turnovers preventing the Tigers from making more goals, Williams racked up 14 saves just within the first two quarters. After the Tigers kept consistently scoring, Austin breaks their 11-0 run and changes the momentum as he scored with the assistance of Balabanoff. The Grizzlies needed to keep the rhythm going into the third quarter as they trailed off 13-4 going into half time.
During the third quarter Williams stood tall in the cage as he continued to add saves. The Grizzlies continued to battle as they put up a strong defense, Kyler Butler turned around on an in pass and was able to make a goal. Butler was the last person to score before the Tigers went on a 5-goal run.
It was a tough game as the Grizzlies did their best to stay engaged.
Chase Roush made his first goal of the game with the assistance of
Brett Carberry, followed by Butler making a goal as well, while the Grizzlies continued to fight. The Grizzlies found some momentum in the last minutes of the game, before the Tigers would go on and take the game 22-8.
Four different Grizzlies scored today, Austin was the lead scorer followed by Butler, Balabanoff, and Roush. Williams did and impressive job as goalie as he added 17 saves to his collegiate career.
Adams State will return to action on April 3 when they will go against Colorado State University Pueblo at 2:30 p.m.
