ALAMOSA, Colo.— The home-opening doubleheader for the Adams State University Softball team had some dramatic moments, however, ultimately, the Grizzlies fell in both games on Saturday afternoon at the ASU Softball Field.
GAME 1: Fort Lewis 11, Adams State 2 (6 innings)
In the first game, Adams State scored single runs in the second and sixth innings but offensive outputs by the Skyhawks including a five-run top of the sixth inning put the game away, 11-2.
Adams State's lone runs were a single by
Breck Smith to score
Jade Garbiso and a solo homer to center field by
Tyler Hays, her second of the season.
Adams State had two runs on four hits and one walk while surrendering four errors.
Fort Lewis had their 11 runs on 15 hits and no walks.
Game 2: Fort Lewis 7, Adams State 4 (8 innings)
The second game required an extra inning before the Skyhawks won 7-4.
FLC scored the first one on an unearned run in the top of the first inning before both teams were held scoreless until the sixth inning.
Fort Lewis scored three runs to jump out to a four-run lead entering the bottom of the inning.
In the bottom, Garbiso singled to right field to score
Amaya Turner before
Bailey Reid singled to first base for two RBI before
Sydney Muniz doubled to left field to tie the game at four.
Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh forcing an eighth inning. In the extra frame, a lead off homer and triple down the left field line with two outs gave the Skyhawks the three-run lead.
In the bottom of the inning the Grizzlies had two runners on and one out and deep fly turned into a double play to end it.
Adams State got their four runs on seven hits, five walks and one error. FLC earned their seven runs on 12 hits, three Grizzly errors and two walks.

Adams State will stay home for the second doubleheader of the weekend with Fort Lewis on Sunday. The teams are scheduled to play at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Adams State will host Black Hills State University next Saturday and Sunday.
