SB | Grizzlies claim first win of season in split with FLC

ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Adams State University softball team got the periorbital monkey off their back as they won the first game before splitting with the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Sunday afternoon.

Game 1: Adams State 8, Fort Lewis 7
The first game saw the Grizzlies score six runs in the bottom of the fifth to combat the Skyhawks before scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 8-7 walk-off win.

The Skyhawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a single run in the top of the second and three in the top of the third.

Adams State saw their first run cross in the bottom of the fourth as a throwing error by the right fielder allowed Tyler Hays to cross.

The Grizzlies were buoyed by a three-run shot to centerfield that bounced on the top of the fence by Sydney Muniz in the six-run fifth inning to get a 7-4 lead.

Fort Lewis pulled within one run in the sixth inning on a homer and small ball before a dropped fly ball error on the Grizzly left fielder allowed an unearned run to score and tied the game at seven.

On the bottom of the seventh inning Hays earned a nine-pitch walk before advancing around the bases on a wild pitch and a sacrifice bunt before Muniz turned a seven-pitch at bat into a single to center field for the walk-off win.

Muniz was 2-for-4 at the plate in the game with four RBI.

Jasmine Garbiso earned the win in the circle as she pitched three innings allowing six hits, two earned runs and one walk.

Game 2: Fort Lewis 11, Adams State 4
The second game saw Fort Lewis score seven runs in the top of the first before Adams State scored three in the bottom of the first and a single in the fifth to close out the game.
