WSOC | Grizzlies down Mountaineers for second win of season

GUNNISON, Colo.—The Adams State women's soccer team were determined in their match this afternoon against Western Colorado University. The Grizzlies brought ambition to the field today as they defeated the Mountaineers 2-1.
 
The Grizzlies started the first half with self-assertion as they targeted the goal early on in the game.  Niamiah Cervantes was quick on her feet as she gained possession of the ball and made a shot on the back end of the eighth minute.
 
The Grizzlies looked forward to keeping the momentum going as they were cautious when making their passes. Carena Harrison gained possession of the ball and made a quick pass to Sydney Wiedeman as she managed to gain another point for the Grizzlies. The Mountaineers came close to Grizzly territory and attempted to make a shot on the bottom left of the goal but Ashley Beers swooped the ball up and saved it. The first half ended with high intensity as the Mountaineers trailed off the Grizzlies 2-0.
 
In the second half the Grizzlies continued to be aggressive and attack the ball. Emily Chamberlin was very dominate on the field as she constantly was ready to charge after the ball. The ball continued to alter back and forth across the field as both teams were extremely competitive. The Grizzlies kept the ball in motion in Mountaineer's territory and made multiple attempts to score more goals.
 
Chole Marston was incredible at stealing the ball back each time the Mountaineers gained possession of it. Marston made an effort to score a goal but overshot it on the top right corner of the goal. The Mountaineers managed to get a point in on the 67th minute, the Grizzlies continued to show toughness on the field as the put in all their effort to keep possession of the ball. Alexandria Miles was impressive on the field as she managed to make her way across the field to keep the ball out of Grizzly territory. ASU had multiple top efforts today as they won the match with a final score, 2-1.
 
ASU was dynamic in their match today as the Grizzlies had 14 shots during the contest, Ashley Beers had three saves while allowing one goal, the Mountaineers had 9 shots in the game.
 
The Grizzlies will be back on the field April 16 as they will be playing on their home territory. ASU will be competing in a match against Colorado Christine University with the game scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
