WSOC | Grizzlies drop hard-fought battle with FLC

ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Adams State women's soccer team was back on the pitch after a two-week break. The Grizzlies headed out to the ASU Soccer Field as they competed in a fierce match against Fort Lewis College, but took a fall, 1-0.
 
The first half began with a steady ball movement between the Grizzlies, as they kept the ball in motion in center field. The Grizzlies had an impressive performance by Emily Chamberlain as she was quick on her feet to steal the ball away from the Skyhawks in midfield. The Skyhawks attempted to take multiple shots, but Ashley Beers was quick to put a stop to it as she saved the ball each time. Payton Billingham moved swiftly after the ball, keeping the Skyhawks out of contact. The remainder of the first half consisted of the ball balancing between the Grizzlies and Skyhawks, ending the first half 0-0.
 
The Grizzlies got the second half off to a start with a kickoff, Chloe Marston didn't hesitate to attempt to make a shot on the 47th minute.  Beers continued to keep the score tied as she made a save, not leaving any room for the Skyhawks to score.
 
The ball remained in motion in Grizzly territory as the Skyhawks managed to make a shot on the high right corner of the goal on the69th minute. ASU was fired up and began to play a vigorous defense making sure to stay in control of the ball. The Grizzlies continued to sustain a strong battle until the end but despite their effort took a fall to the Skyhawks, 1-0.
 
Overall, the Grizzlies had three shots during the contest, Ashley Beers had three saves while allowing one goal, the Skyhawks had 10 shots in the game.
 
The Grizzlies will be back in action on April 11, as they travel to Gunnison, Colorado to take on Western Colorado University in a match that is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
