WSOC | Grizzlies fall to DI New Mexico in exhibition

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—The Adams State University women's soccer team was able to hit the pitch on Thursday evening as they took on the Division I University of New Mexico Lobos at the UNM Soccer Complex in an exhibition game. The Grizzlies fell 10-1.

Despite a slow start, the Grizzlies got things rolling in the second half, as they capitalized on a free kick and a rebound as Alyssa Doty scored the curling goal into the right bottom corner for the goal.
In the first half, the Lobos jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute as they had a lob over the defender before a strike found the bottom right of the goal. The Lobos then found the bottom right of the goal on another lob in the 15th minute to make the score 2-0.

The third UNM goal came in the 20th minute as a throw in allowed a forward to surge around two Grizzly defenders before a perfectly placed cross found a header for a goal to the bottom left.

The fourth goal was a lob into the box that died but a lucky bounce found the foot of a forward to make the score 4-0 before lightning, which was threatening all afternoon, finally entered the six-mile radius of the field and forced a delay.

The lightning that hit the downtown Albuquerque area on Thursday night was so immense that the two teams decided to suspend the game until Friday morning.

After a 13-hour delay, the game restarted and quickly the Lobos added two more goals and took a 6-0 lead into the second half.

Adams State finished the game with four shots, three of which were on target.

Adams State will open up the regular season on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Golden, Colo. as the Colorado School of Mines will play host to a neutral game between No. 25 Western Washington and the Grizzlies.
