XC | Grizzlies post perfect scores to win 28th Annual Joe I. Vigil

ALAMOSA, Colo.— Perfect weather greeted over 1,000 runners who took to Cattail Golf Course on Saturday morning as the Adams State University Grizzlies swept the University Division titles at the 28th Annual Joe I. Vigil with perfect scores of 15.

Adams State held nine of the top ten places in the race as sophomore Brianna Robles averaged 5:43.8 a mile and finished the 5,000-meter race in 17:49.1 for the championship. Junior Franziska Althaus (18:18.1) finished in second place, sophomore Precious Robinson (18:21.5) finished in third, freshman Ava O'Connor (18:39.6) finished in fourth and freshman Morgan Hykes (18:40.9) rounded out the scorers.

Other runners for the Grizzlies were sophomore Nicole Lawrence (18:51.1), senior Sarah Wills, (18:52.9), freshman Emily Schoellkopf (18:53.4), freshman Reina Paredes (19:34.7), freshman Jaden Johnson (20:10.9), sophomore Amalia Dorion (20:19.0), sophomore Erin Stonebarger (20:21.1), freshman Hannah Boatright (20:28.2), junior Amanda Foster (20:35.6) and sophomore Paige Morales (20:48.0).

On the men's side, the Grizzlies had 11 of the top 12 spots as freshman Ahmed Sado won the 8,000-meter race in 25:01.9. He averaged 5:02.02 a mile.

Behind Sado by 5.3 seconds was junior Isaiah Rodarte, who finished in 25:07.2 while freshman James Dunne finished in third with a time of 25:15.3. Freshman Elijah De La Cerda (25:19.9) and junior Miguel Coca (25:23.8) rounded out the scorers for the Grizzlies as they finished in fourth and fifth places, respectively, as they had just 21.9 seconds between the top five.

Other runners for the Grizzlies were junior Davonte Jett-Reynolds (25:24.1), freshman Mikah Paiz (25:29.5), junior Mitchell Dervin (25:46.1), freshman Andrew O'Keefe (25:49.8), senior Alec Hall (25:59.9), freshman David Cardenas (26:00.6) and freshman Elias Perez (26:18.8).

The Grizzlies will continue to train as they prepare for the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship, which is set to take place on October 23 and will be run in Golden, Colo. The Grizzlies will be in action on Saturday, Sept. 18 when they travel to the Mountaineer/Cowboy Invite in Gunnison, Colo.
