MSOC | Strong second half wasn’t enough for the win

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies played a tough game against a conference foe, Colorado Christian. Colorado Christian Cougars were coming into this game without a loss, as they were 2-0. The Grizzlies were looking to find their first win of the season. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies will have to wait, as they lost in a very close game, 2-1.

The Cougars came out fast as they scored a goal in the 12th minute. Silas Hess scored from 20-yards out with the assistance of Lucca Casci. However, the Grizzlies were just as quick to counter back. Division I transfer, Josh Garcia, stole a ball from CCU then scored at the 20-yard line. The score remained tied until Liam Lakey scored for the Cougars, with the assist from Adrian Diez.

The scored remained this way for the rest of the game. The Grizzlies lost 2-1. The hard fought second half wasn't enough to surpass the Cougars.

"Disappointed to drop the game today but encouraged by how we played," Head Coach Brett Bentley said when asked for his overall thoughts of the game. "This team could be 3-0 at this point but we're lacking the chemistry and cohesion to finish teams off. Today was good because we got minutes for 20 of 21 guys which will help us as we build into conference play."

The Grizzlies will take this lesson into consideration when they play their next game against Fort Lewis College on Friday, September 17th at 3:00 p.m. Then the Grizzlies stay home and play Colorado Christian on September 19th.
