ALAMOSA, Colo. – The weather couldn't have been better as Adams State took on Colorado Christian for the second time this preseason at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 19th. In the first matchup, Adams State lost 2-1. This time, the score was the same, but the Cougars won in overtime via a PK.
The Cougars came out fast as Gabe Roloff scored for the Cougars. The Grizzlies and the Cougars were battling back and forth the rest of the half. At the end of the half, the Cougars had four shots on goal, meanwhile, the Grizzlies had zero.
The Grizzlies and the Cougars were ready to start the second half as they both came out strong. The Grizzlies were attacking hard and finally in the 82nd minute
Dante Mangayi found the back of the net. This tied the score, 1-1. The score would remain 1-1 and so the Grizzlies and Cougars would go into overtime.
Two minutes into extra time, the Grizzlies fouled Jorge Lopez in the box and on the penalty kick, he scored.
"That is the hard part of the game; you can have the majority of the ball and dictate how and where the game is played but still lose," Head Coach Bret Bentley said. "We were tremendous today between the 18's but still need to sharpen some things up on both sides of the ball to change the results. I really like the direction we're headed and think we will shortly turn the corner to become a complete 90' team."
