MSOC | Grizzlies get their first win!

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies met the South Dakota Mines half way in Lakewood, Colorado to play a non-conference match.

The first half started and the Grizzlies and Mines were going back and forth. The Grizzlies goalkeeper had made a few nice saves; however, South Dakota Mines was able to get one past him in the 22nd minute. Mines' Logan Allard scored with the assist from George Martinez. The Grizzlies looked to answer back but would remain scoreless in the first half.

As the second half started both teams couldn't seem to score. The momentum of the game was in the favor of South Dakota Mines until there was a penalty kick. Junior Eduardo Cardenas got the opportunity and made the penalty kick. This goal tied the game and would send it into overtime.

Overtime started and within the first two minutes the Grizzlies scored and ended the game. Eli Rome found the back of the net by heading a cross from Brayan Fernandez.
This is the first win of the season for the Grizzlies.

"Incredibly happy for the boys. Credit to South Dakota, that did a lot well and made the day difficult," Head Coach Brett Bentley said. "But our boys responded well after a sleepy first half. Proud of Eli for winning it for us. Could not ask for a better teammate. He deserved that goal as much as anyone. We will get back to work though and ready for a tough week ahead."

Up next, the Grizzlies look to use this momentum as they have a weekend at home. On Friday, October 1st, Adam State plays Colorado School of Mines and then on Sunday, October 3rd, they play Colorado Christian for the third time this year.
