WSOC | Grizzlies looking to keep the momentum after first win

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies are traveling to Texas to play Lubbock Christian on Thursday, September 9th and West Texas A&M on Saturday, September 11th. The Grizzlies are coming off of their first win of the season against St. Edward's, with the score 2-1.

"These next two teams will prepare us for what conference play will be like," head coach Colin Baker said. "Both teams are direct, fast, and physical and they'll definitely test us."

The Grizzlies are using this momentum as they head into this upcoming weekend. Lubbock Christian is also coming into the game with a win from their last game. They beat New Mexico Highlands 4-1 on September 2nd. They were scheduled to play East Central University, but the game was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.

"LCU is a very organized and dangerous team on their direct play. We expect them to come out pressing us hard and try to intimidate us," Coach Baker explained. "They've got some of the best attacking players in the Lonestar Conference leading their line." With this being said, the Grizzlies will not back down and take on the challenge head on.

After playing Lubbock Christian, the Grizzlies will travel to Canyon, Texas to play West Texas A&M. In a previous match up, Adams State beat West Texas A&M for the first time in program history in 2019. This ended their five-year non-conference home unbeaten streak. This alone will make the Grizzlies have a target on their back.

"West Texas is a whole different animal. They're very athletic and have pace all across the board," mentioned Baker. "It'll be a special game for them I'm sure after we beat them for the first time in program history in 2019. We will be ready to go into a hard-fought match with a game plan we feel can give us the win before heading home."

These games will be the last non-conference games for the Grizzlies. Conference play will begin by Adams State being on the road against Colorado School of Mines and Regis University.
