ALAMOSA, Colo.— The Adams State University wrestling team hosted their first home dual in 693 days on Thursday afternoon when they defeated New Mexico Highlands in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual, 39-12.
The dual started at 197 pounds with a stalemate for the first 2:30 and before the Cowboys saw Luke Allen score the first points of the match with a takedown.
Hunter Tobiasson was able to get an escape before the first period finished. Tobiasson was able to close out the first match with a fall.
The next match was at 125 pounds where
Isaiah De La Cerda made quick work of Xaydrian Perry and earned a fall in 33 seconds.
At 141 pounds, Gabe Rivera got a first period takedown over sophomore
Cael Figueroa. The 2-0 score going into the second period was quickly erased as Figueroa, who was in the top position, earned four near-fall points. He earned eight more in the second period to take a 12-2 lead. He went on to get a technical fall with 50 seconds left.
In the 149-pound match,
Noah Hermosillo earned the first point in the second period on an escape after a stalemate in the first period. Hermosillo took a 3-1 lead after a flurry of action that included a takedown by Hermosillo and an escape from Jonathan Trujillo. Hermosillo was able to jhold on for the 4-1 win.
Josiah Rider earned a quick take down of Andres Grano at 157 pounds. He was able to get a fall in 1:59.
Samuel Loera defeated Hunter Medina 14-4 at 165 pounds with six takedowns.
Cody Lewis dropped the only match of the day as he was pinned by Allen Michel in 2:18.
Benjamin Tonnessen nearly had a fall over Lance Killgore at 184 pounds, however, the match went the full time with Tonnessen winning 5-1.
Julian Sanchez received a forfeit at 285 pounds for the Cowboys while
Jonathan Andreatta earned a forfeit at 133 pounds.
The Grizzlies will return to action tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 7th, when they travel to Gunnison for the Western Colorado Open.
