FB| Grizzlies drop heartbreaker at Chadron State

CHADRON, Neb.— Depsite a 20-play drive in the fourth quarter, the Adams State University Grizzlies were unable to escape Elliott Field at Don Bebe Stadium with a win on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles, who jump the Grizzlies in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) standings and are now 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference, drove down the field and milked nearly six minutes off the clock before cashing in for the game winning touchdown with 1:08 left to go .

The game started tough for the Grizzlies as the Eagles took the opening drive and quarterback Preston Pearson was able to find tight end Peter Krohn wide open in the middle of the field for a 27-yard touchdown. The Eagles attempted to execute a shock-and-awe two-point conversion that was spoiled by the Grizzly defense and they took a 6-0 lead.

The Grizzlies retaliated with 13 unanswered points to take a 13-6 lead. The first score capped off a 13-play 78-yard drive that saw Makrell Grayson connect with Da'Quan Hopkins for a 10-yard touchdown to make the score 7-6 after Gunner Hernandez kicked the PAT.

The next scoring drive by the Grizzlies was aided by three straight pass interference penalties by the Eagles to cap off a 10-play, 73-yard touchdown. Hernandez' PAT was blocked.

The Eagles closed out the first half with ten straight points including a 33-yard floating touchdown and an astonishing 57-yard field goal that was aided by the wind that blew heavily throughout the game.

Adams State ran 83 plays for 370 yards while allowing the Eagles to run 67 plays for 361 yards.

Dyalen Boddie ran the ball 22 times for Adams State for 41 yards. Elijah Harper was targeted 13 times where he made eight catches for 75 yards.

The Grizzlies will return home for their final home night game of the season when they take on Colorado Mesa University for a 6:00 p.m. Kickoff.
