RIVERSIDE, Calif.—The Adams State Cross Country team continues to take a stride in the right direction as the grizzlies had a very successful weekend as they competed at the Highlander Invitational at the UCR AG Open Course. The men's team took first with 24 points and the woman's team took first with 30 points.
The Grizzlies began there Saturday morning with the men's 8k race with
Awet Beraki taking the lead early on and maintaining his pace until the finish. Beraki ran a strong race and finished first overall with a time of 23:23.6. Next grizzlies to cross the line was
Cameron Allan who showed great efforts as he gave it his all to cross the line in fourth place with a time of 23:50.2, followed by
Clement Duigou who stayed close to pack earning him a fifth place finish with a time of 23.51.0.
James Dunne and
Miguel Coca also had an impressive finish as they finished in the top ten. Dunne finished seventh with a time of 23:58.2 followed by Coca in ninth with a time of 24:02.9.
Yonas Haile represented the grizzlies well has he stayed engaged in the race and finished 13
th overall with a time of 24:05.0, followed by
Mitchell Dervin who finished 18
th with a time of 24:16.8.
Andrew O'Keefe also competed as well and finished 31
st with a time of 24:35.3, followed by Elijah De La Cerda in 44
th (24:47.3), and
Aron Orar in 73
rd (25:14.1).
After the men set a good tone to start of the day the women's team keep the winning streak going as they showed great efforts on the course as well. It was a tough race for the women's 6k as
Brianna Robles showed great efforts and finished 3
rd overall with a time of 19:54.5, followed by
Precious Robinson who had a strong finish to earn 4
th place with a time of 20:03.9.
Emily Schoellkopf ran a strategic race as she stayed close to the pack and earned an 8
th place finish with a time of 20:33.6, followed by Franziska Althaus who placed 10
th with a time of 20:35.1.
Morgan Hykes maintained a close distance and finished 11
th with a time of 20:38.7.
Maggie McCleskey fought her way until the finish as she placed 16
th with a time of 20:48.5, followed by
Nicole Lawrence in 20
th with a time of 20:50.5.
Reina Paredes maintained a good distance as she worked her way to the finish as she placed 35
th with a time of 21:14.1.
Erin Stonebarger and
Amalia Dorion both competed for the grizzlies as well and showed endeavor. Stonebarger finished in 51
st place with a time of 21:33.7, and Dorion finished in 70
th with a time of 21:56.6.
The Grizzlies season is slowly inching closer to champion season, which will begin November 5
th with the RMAC Cross Country Championship. Until then, the Grizzlies have one more upcoming race, which will be next week on October 21
st at UCCS XC Open.
