LAS VEGAS, N.M. -- New Mexico Highlands' men's basketball team broke open a close game in the second half en route to a 87-73 win over the visiting Adams State University Grizzlies Dec. 10.
The Cowboys are 4-6 overall, 2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. ASU slips to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the RMAC.
Isaiah Sampson led ASU with 21 points.
Maison Adeleye had 15, and
Jaylin Reed contributed 12. The Cowboys' top scorer was Dante Moses, who wound up with 35 points. TJ Sanchez scored 28.
Adams State had a tough time shooting from the field, yet the Cowboys led by just one point at the end of the first half. NMHU scored 31 of the first 49 points in the second half to take control of matters. By contrast, Adams State made just eight of its first 23 tries from the floor and did not make a 3-pointer in the second half.
Adams State's last game before a holiday break is at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, in Grand Junction against Colorado Mesa University.
