ALAMOSA, Colo. -- Adams State University's women's basketball exploded for 33 points in the second quarter while five players scored double figures and went on to an 81-61 victory over Western State Colorado at Plachy Hall Dec. 2.
ASU improved to 6-2 overall, 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mountaineers fell to 1-5 overall, 0-1 in conference play.

The Mountaineers' leading scorer was Hayley Valencia, who scored 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Rachel Cockman was next with 12, and Emmery Wagstaff tossed in 10 points. Natalie Sumrock grabbed seven rebounds.
Western State had a better shooting percentage from the floor than did the Grizzlies. But Adams State made half of its tries from 3-point range, while the Mountaineers made just 36 percent of its 3-point efforts.
Adams State will try to make it three conference wins in a row when the Grizzlies visit CSU-Pueblo. Tip time is 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9.
