ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies are hosting their final home games of the season this weekend against rivals Fort Lewis College and Western Colorado University. The Grizzlies beat both teams on the road previously this season and are hoping to do the same to ensure their spot in playoffs.
Up first for the Grizzlies is Fort Lewis College. This game will be at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 18th. The Skyhawks are 2-21 overall and 1-16 in conference. The last time these teams met the Grizzlies won with a last second buzzer beater by junior guard
Kayla Harris. The final score of the game was 64-62. This defeat is still fresh in the minds of the Skyhawks as it hasn't been a month since they last played. The Skyhawks are looking to steal this one at home against the Grizzlies with the help from redshirt- senior guard, Sydney Candelaria. She is averaging 21.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. The Grizzlies high energy defense will be the key in getting the victory over the Skyhawks.
After Fort Lewis College, the Grizzlies host their rivals, Western Colorado University. The Mountaineers are 10-12 overall and 8-9 in conference. The last time these two teams met, the Grizzlies played a spectacular game and beat the Mountaineers 64-47. The score doesn't reflect how physical and hard-fought the game truly was. The Mountaineers and the Grizzlies are neck-and-neck for being in the top eight teams in the RMAC. The top eight teams are the ones going into the RMAC tournament so this game will be a battle to see which team will be able to continue playing after the season is over. Leading the Mountaineers is Samantha Coleman who is averaging 10.3 points, 4 rebounds, and is 38% from the three-point line.
During this game the Grizzlies will be honoring their seniors. There are four seniors on the team,
Kaitlyn Bell,
Haley Eaves,
Kaela McClure, and
Stephanie Ruiz.
Up next, is the final two games of the regular season. The Grizzlies are on the road against Regis University and Colorado School of Mines.
