GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Adams State University wrestling team saw three wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Division II Tournament on Saturday at the NCAA Division II Super Regional VI Tournament inside Brownson Arena.
The three –
Jonathan Andreatta (133 pounds),
Noah Hermosillo (149 pounds) and
Josiah Rider (157 pounds) earned their national slots during the NCAA Division II Super Regional VI tournament at Brownson Arena.
Hermosillo, the fourth-ranked, 149-pounder in the latest NWCA poll, won the lone individual title for the Grizzlies, and he did so in his closest match of the tournament. He got past Sam Turner of the University of Nebraska-Kearney 3-2 in the finals. His other two wins were by scores of 4-0 over Fort Hays (Kan,) State's Cason Lindsey and a 7-3 decision over Jason Hanenberg of Western State University in the semifinals.
Andreatta, ranked No. 6 in his weight class in the NWCA poll, finished second. Wesley Dawkins of Nebraska-Kearney won the championship by medical forfeit. Earlier in the tourney, Andreatta pinned CDU-Pueblo's Gabriel Taboa in 2:24 and pinned Colorado Mesa University's Collin Metzgar in 2:49.
Rider, the No. 2-ranked 157-pounder in the NWCA poll, also took second. Ryan Wheeler of Colorado Mesa won the title by injury default. Rider advanced to the title match by way of a major (10-1) decision over Brent Hodgson of Simon Fraser and a pin of Carter Noehre of the Colorado School of Mines in 4:09 of the semifinal round.
Samuel Loera took fourth at 160 pounds.
Cody Lewis was fifth among 174-pounders.
Hunter Tobiasson was fifth at 197 pounds.
Isaiah De La Cerda, the ninth-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds, lost in the second round of consolations due to a season-ending leg injury.
The Grizzlies entered the tournament as the No. 6 team in the NWCA polls.
