DURANGO, Colo.—Defensive woes continued to haunt the Adams State University Softball team on Saturday at Aspen Field where the host Skyhawks capitalized for six unearned runs on the day that saw Fort Lewis sweep a doubleheader, 6-5 and 6-3.
Game 1: Fort Lewis 6, Adams State 5
Fort Lewis cashed in on back-to-back singles, a double, a triple and a fielders' choice 3-0 edge after two innings.
The Grizzlies putting together three hits to plate two runs for a 3-2 score.
Jasmine Garbiso had a single up the middle and
Breck Smith hit a sacrifice fly.
Adams State continued to work the momentum, overtaking the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring a pair of unearned runs to go up one run, 4-1. The lead stood until the bottom of the fifth when a single scored a run to tie it up and a fielders' choice for a 5-4 lead.
The lead flip-flopped yet again, this time in the top of the sixth when a solo home run from
Lyric Torres to left field tied things at 5-5. The Skyhawks took the final lead in the sixth on a RBI groundout.
In the game, the Grizzlies had seven hits and three walks while a single error counted for three unearned runs.
Game 2: Fort Lewis 6, Adams State 3
Fort Lewis was the first to strike again with two singles to go up 2-0 after two innings of play.
Adams State struck back in its follow at-bats by putting
Jade Garbiso in scoring position with a one-out double and
Belinda Vargas bringing her home with an outfield single for a 2-1 score.
Adams State saw
Angeline Mitchell single home Torres before
Andrea Cline doubled down the left field line to take a 3-2 lead.
The Skyhawks then scored four unanswered runs on two doubles and a throwing error get the win.

Adams State is next scheduled to be in action on Saturday and Sunday when they would play Black Hills State University in two doubleheaders.
