ALAMOSA, Colo.— Despite playing as the visitors on the Adams State University Softball Field scoreboard, the Adams State University softball team was able to capture an 8-6 win in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action.
GAME 1: Adams State 8, Black Hills State 3
The Grizzlies came out to play in the opening game as
DeziRae Martinez nailed a double to score
Angeline Mitchell and
Breck Smith who populated the base paths in the second inning.
Sydney Muniz than started a small carousel of runners to home as she singled to left center to score
Jade Garbiso before Mitchell hit her second career home run, the first of the 2022 campaign to center field. Smith and Muniz crossed the plate to make the score 6-0 headed into the bottom of the third inning.
A passed ball allowed the seventh run to score for the Grizzlies in the top of the fifth inning, but the Grizzlies could not get the mercy rule in effect. The Yellow Jackets were able to score two runs in the sixth inning before Mitchell earned her fourth RBI in the seventh inning.
The Yellow Jackets than scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh to close the game with an 8-3 final.
In the game the Grizzlies had ten hits including four for extra bases, and only surrendered one error.
Tayler Duncan earned her first win of the season as she tossed 5 2/3 innings where she surrendered six hits and a walk and allowed two runs to score with one strikeout.
GAME 2: Adams State 8, Black Hills State 6
Mitchell got the Grizzlies going again in the second game as she doubled in the top of the second inning before Martinez drove her in with a double to right center.
Jade Garbiso nailed a home run in the third inning before Smith nailed an RBI single to center field pushing Muniz across the plate.
Emma Wilder was able to score on a single from
Belinda Vargas in the fourth inning before a bloop double by Muniz cleared the bases to push the lead to 6-0.
The Yellow Jackets attempted to come back as they hit a home run in the fifth inning and a single run in the fourth.
Jade Garbiso got the win after throwing six innings surrendering five runs while
Jasmine Garbiso earned the save.

The Grizzlies, now 6-13 on the season and 3-7 in the RMAC, will remain at home on Sunday for another doubleheader with the Yellow Jackets. Games are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
