Box Score 2 ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Adams State University Grizzlies completed games three and four of their ten-game home set on Sunday as they were swept by the the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets, 10-6 and 10-8.
GAME 1: Black Hills State 10, Adams State 6
The Grizzlies scored first in the top of the first inning as
Emma Wilder tripled to centerfield before an RBI groundout by
Jade Garbiso made the score 1-0 going into the bottom half of the inning. In the bottom half, starting pitcher
Taylor Sandoval appeared to run into trouble as she loaded the bases on two singles and a nine-pitch walk but she was able to escape the jam without any runs crossing the plate.
The score stayed the same until the bottom of the third inning in which the Yellow Jackets nailed a two-run home run to take a 2-1 lead. They added another run before Sandoval was able to stop the bleeding.
The Grizzlies cut into the lead in the top of the fourth inning as
Belinda Vargas hit an RBI triple to score
Breck Smith, who reached on an error. The Yellow Jackets wasted little time getting the run back as they took advantage of a three-base error in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 4-2.
The Grizzlies did not go down without a fight as
Kylea Wall nailed a home run to center field to pull back within one run in the top of the fifth inning. Again, the Yellow Jackets punched right back with a single to make it a 5-3 lead entering the sixth inning.
Muniz then singled home a run to once again cut the run down to one before
DeziRae Martinez tied the game with a single to score Smith.
Despite the Grizzlies scoring a run in the seventh inning, the Grizzly bullpen allowed five runs to score in the bottom of the sixth inning for the win.
GAME 2: Black Hills State 10, Adams State 8
Adams State scored two runs early in the second game as both Vargas and Martinez hit sacrifice flies to off set a single run by the Yellow Jackets in the second inning.
The Yellow Jackets used two errors in the fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead.
The fifth inning is where the Grizzlies exploded.
Jade Garbiso earned her first knock of the game, an RBI double to score
Mariah Madrid.
Sydney Muniz also sae her bat come to life for her first hit to score a run before
Breck Smith hit a two run to tie the game at six.
Belinda Vargas than hit an inside-the-park home run to right field to give the Grizzlies the lead at 7-6.
The Yellow Jackets didn't stay down for long as they scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to regain a two-run lead, 9-7. Garbiso then decided to send a big fly to centerfield for a home tun to cut the lead back down to 9-8 heading to the bottom of the sixth. The Yellow Jackets capitalized with one more run to close out the game with a loss.

Adams State will have a short time to prepare for a non-conference doubleheader with New Mexico Highlands. The Cowgirls will ride into town on Wednesday with first pitches scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The Grizzlies will then host Colorado Mesa University for two twin bills on Saturday (12:00 & 2:00 p.m.) and Sunday (11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.) at the ASU Softball Field.
