Grizzlies Sweep Chadron State on Day One

Alamosa, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies swept day one of their two-day series against Chadron State, taking game one 7-6 in eight innings before earning a 6-4 victory in game two.

Game one opened with early momentum for the Grizzlies. Caylie Euiguren drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first, and Adams State added runs in each of the next three innings. Aubree Davis delivered a two-RBI single in the second, and Denae Ojeda drew an RBI walk in the third.

Davis extended her season home run total to seven with a solo shot in the fourth, giving the Grizzlies a 6-4 lead. Chadron State answered with two runs in the sixth to force extra innings after Adams State was unable to respond.

In the eighth, the Grizzlies found their answer. Ojeda singled and moved to second before Davis delivered again, driving a single to right field to bring home the winning run.

Munoz earned the complete-game victory, throwing 138 pitches while allowing three walks and striking out seven.

Game two featured a slower start, with both teams scoreless through three innings. Chadron State struck first with two runs in the fourth, but the Grizzlies responded in the bottom half. A passed ball brought in one run, Kaylee Eyl added an RBI double, and Devree Godinez followed with a double to give Adams State the lead.

The Grizzlies added three more runs in the fifth to extend their advantage. The Eagles plated one run in both the sixth and seventh innings, but the comeback fell short.

Celie Page earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing four earned runs and striking out two.

Adams State will return for day two of the series, which begins at 11 a.m., followed by Senior Day festivities.
