ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State University Grizzlies dropped two close games to the No. 10 Colorado Mesa University Mavericks, 8-7, and the Regis Rangers, ??-??, on Sunday afternoon at the ASU Baseball Field to close out Pod Weekend.
Game 1: #10 Colorado Mesa 8, Adams State 7
The Grizzlies jumped on the board first with four runs in the bottom of the second inning with a single by
Brody Bettis to drive in
Colton Goldfarb and a three run home run to left field by
Ryan Downs, The Mavericks scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning and added another in the top of the fifth inning.
The Grizzlies responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single by
Colton Goldfarb that scored
Mike Bathauer. The Mavericks then platted a run in the top of the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly. The Grizzlies answered with a two run single by
Matt Bathauer. The Mavericks then cut the lead down by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh and three runs in the top of the ninth which included back to back home runs.
The Grizzlies started southpaw
Jamison Fuentes. He threw five innings with five strikeouts, two walks, and two earned runs.
Anthony Bleggi was handed the loss for the Grizzlies bringing his record to 03.
Game 2: Regis University 10, Adams State 4
The Rangers started off the game with three runs in top of the first inning which included a two run homerun. The Rangers then added another run in the top of the second inning with a solo home run to left center. The Grizzlies got on the board in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly by
Ryan Downs that scored
Chase Hiatt.
The Rangers then added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning and four runs in the top of the eighth inning. The Grizzlies recorded their first hit of the game in the ninth inning with a double by
Mike Bathauer which scored
Matt Bathauer.
Mike Bathauer then scored on a wild pitch.
Colton Goldfarb had a sacrifice fly to plate

The Grizzlies started right hander
Cesar Loma. He threw five innings giving up four runs with four walks and two strikeouts. He was handed the loss for the Grizzlies which brings his recorded to 0-6.

The Grizzlies will be back in action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday when they head to Lakewood and All-Star Park for Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action against the Colorado Christian Cougars. Game times are different for normal RMAC doubleheaders. The Grizzlies open Friday with a seven-inning doubleheader scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. before they play a nine-inning game on Saturday starting at 4:00 p.m. and a nine-inning game on Sunday starting at 9:00 a.m.
