LUBBOCK, Texas . – Pablo Diez scored three times as Lubbock Christian beat Adams State 6-1 in the season-opening men's soccer match on Thursday night.
Diez scored two of his goals in the first half. One was in the 18th minute, and the other came in the 35th minute. He completed his hat trick with a penalty kick in the 50th minute.
Tariq Bakkali, Hugo Staunton and Lucas Carli also scored for the Chaparral. ASU's goal came off the foot of
Aidyn Ogle by way of a penalty kick in the 73rd minute.
LCU outshot the Grizzlies 21-10. Max Debarennes and
George Valenzuela each had two shots for ASU. Bakkali finished the match with five shots. Grizzlies' goalkeeper
Logan Rabasca made six saves. LCU netminder Tom Miles made three saves.
ASU has one more game left on its season-opening swing through Texas. It starts at 2 p.m. (MDT) Saturday, Aug. 27, against Texas Permian Basin.
