Men's Cross Country By Brianna Robles, ASU Sports Information Student Assistant

XC | Grizzlies host 29th Annual Joe I. Vigil

ALAMOSA, Colo.__ The Adams State men and women's cross country team took to Cattail Golf Course on Saturday morning as the Grizzlies swept the University Division titles at the 29th Annual Joe I. Vigil with the men scoring 16 points and the women's team scoring 15.
 
Adams State held six top ten finishes in the race as Brianna Robles was the first grizzly to cross the line. Robles finished the 5,000 meter race with a time of 17:08.38. Nicole Lawrence had a strong finish as she placed second (17:41.32), followed by Precious Robinson in fourth (17:55.81), Emily Schoellkopf finished fifth (18:05.02), Morgan Hykes in sixth (18:09.51), and Franziska Althaus in ninth (18:34.13).
 
 
Other runners for the Grizzlies were Reina Paredes who should great efforts as she finished 11th ( 18:57.39), Amalia Dorion in 12th ( 19:02.26), Erin Stonebarger in 13th ( 19:12.23), Lieke Hoogsteen 21st (21:29.56), and Mikaela Johnson 24th (21:56.51).
 
 
On the men's side Awet Beraki set the tone of the race as he lead from the gun to take the win with a time of 24:51.88. Cameron Allen maintained a good pace throughout the race and finished in second (25:24.32), followed by Yonas Haile in third (25:35.85), Elijah De La Cerda in fourth ( 25:40.61), James Dunne in sixth ( 25:54.88), Clement Duigou in seventh (25:57.82), David Cardenas in ninth ( 26:01.72), and Davonte Jett-Reynolds in 10th ( 26:10.06).
 
 
Other runners for the Grizzlies were Andrew O'Keefe who finished 12th with a time of 26:15.52 followed by Armando Ortiz 13th ( 26:14.87), Miguel Coca 14th  ( 26:26.26), Aron Orar 17th (26:34.07), Andy Setser 19th (27:00.93), and Michael Sherman 21st ( 27:16.92).
 
 
Up Next, the Grizzlies will train through for a couple of weeks until the hit the road to Colorado Springs to compete at the Ted Castaneda Classic on Saturday October 1st at the Monument Valley Park.
