ALAMOSA, Colo.— No. 20 Colorado School of Mines shut out Adams State 3-0 at Adams State Soccer Field on Friday afternoon. This was the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opening play weekend for both the Grizzlies and the Orediggers.
Fighting against the slow starting Orediggers the Grizzlies managed to defend their goal for most of the first half, the Orediggers (4-1-10) took the lead in the 34 minutes. Though the Grizzlies defenders held strong the Orediggers managed to put two more goals into the Grizzlies' net in the second half.
The Orediggers first goal came from Jordan Barnhart, followed by the Orediggers top scorer Reese McDermott. Jolie Jiricek scored her first collegiate goal in the last five minutes of the game.
The Orediggers outshot ASU 18-0.
Ashlyn Bartley had another impressive day in goal saving seven shots on goal.
Adams State will continue to play at home this upcoming Sunday, Sept. 18, against Regis University at 1 pm (MST). Regis University won their first conference game over New Mexico Highlands University 4-0.
