LUBBOCK, Texas – Adams State rebounded from yesterday's sweeps to sweep host Lubbock Christian on the final day of the Lubbock Christian University Invitational, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20.
Anna Huggins and
Riley Rabedeaux tied for match-high honors with 12 kills each while
Natalie Gallegos added 10 as the Grizzlies move to 3-5 on the year.
Shae Sapiga got the Grizzlies off to a fast start with her stellar serve, staking ASU to a 5-0 lead to open set one en route to a 10-3 edge early on.
LCU whittled its deficit to just four at 24-20 late in the frame before a service error gave ASU the set one win.
Looking to even the match, the Lady Chaps were more competitive in set two, staying even with Adams State and tying the Grizzlies at 20-20.
Sapiga was at it again at the service line, spurring a 5-1 run to close the fame with
Aileen Bugas contributing an ace and ASU benefitting from another LCU attack error to take a 2-0 match lead.
The Lady Chaps found their rhythm to open set three, racing to a 6-2 advantage. Behind
Natalie Gallegos's serve, ASU scored the next six points to take the lead for good as its advantage hovered around the 5-point mark, reaching eight at 22-14 as
Sierra Leone Sanchez served four-consecutive points to take control of the match.
Despite LCU cutting into the ASU lead at 23-19, a Huggins blast brought ASU to match point, and after the Lady Chaps counted with a kill of their own, Huggins ended the match with a flurry, cementing the 3-0 sweep.
The Grizzlies hit .216 for the match, also tallying 13 more kills in the win.
ASU begins conference play with its first home match of the year on Wednesday, taking on Colorado Christian University at 7 pm.
