ALAMOSA, Colo. – A sudden victory win by No. 3 ranked
Brendon Garcia set the momentum for the No. 6 ranked Adams State University Grizzly wrestlers on Saturday afternoon inside Plachy Hall. The Grizzlies were able to get the pivotal win before putting enough space between them and the visiting Colorado School of Mines Orediggers to claim a 26-15 win.
With the win the Grizzlies sit atop the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Standings with a perfect 5-0 overall record and 3-0 conference record. The Orediggers dropped their first dual of the year and are now 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the RMAC.
Adams State opened the dual in fine fashion as
Hunter Tobiasson needed just 2:23 to get the Grizzlies six points as he earned a fall at 184.
The Grizzlies lost the next two as Ben Tonnessen lost an 8-5 decision at 197 pounds before
Adam Alvarenga was pinned in the 285 pound match, giving the Orediggers a 9-5 lead.
Adams State than saw Gracia take Christian Lopez to the final five seconds before getting a match-tying take down and forcing the match to an overtime where he got a takedown. This tied the dual up at 9.
Isaiah DeLaCerda won his 133-pound match with a fall in 6:16.
Grayston DiBlasi earned a one-point decision over Kieran Thimpson at 141 before
Josiah Rider won his 149-pound match with a 4-1 decision.
Noah Hermosillo needed just 4:14 to earn a 15-0 technical fall at 157 pounds. The Grizzlies than split the 165 pound and 174 pound matches.
The Grizzlies will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 21 when they travel to Kearney Nebraska for the UNK Midwest Duals.
