GUNNISON, Colo.— The No. 8 ranked Adams State University Grizzlies rebounded with a 22-18 win over the No. 23 ranked Western Colorado Mountaineers on Friday night inside Paul Wright Gym. With the win the Grizzlies improve to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Grizzlies won the first four matches as No. 3 ranked
Brendon Garcia and
AJ Van Matre earned identical 3-2 decisions at 125 pounds and 133 pounds, respectively.
Kieran Thompson won the 141-pound match via a 9-0 major decision while No. 3 ranked
Josiah Rider earned a 4-2 win at 149 pounds.
Ryan Wilson put the Mountaineers back into the dual as he earned a fall in 4:55 before Hunter Mullin earned a 10-6 decision. The Mountaineers pulled with one point as Cole Hernandez narrowly defeated
Ryan Rochford, 4-3.
Hunter Tobiasson won the 184-pound match via a 6-2 decision to make the team score 16-12.
Ben Tonnessen earned a fall in 26 seconds to secure the team win.
The Grizzlies return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1 when they travel to Las Vegas, N.M. to take on the Cowboys at 6:00 p.m.
