WBB |Grizzlies battle fall at Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK, Texas – Playing a very competitive back and forth affair, the Adams State University Grizzlies pulled to a tie entering the fourth quarter, however, they couldn't get enough to gain a fourth quarter lead and fell, 69-65 to the Lubbock Christian University Chaps inside Rip Griffin Center as part of the N2CCA Tipoff Classic.

The Grizzlies battled to just one point late, however, a shooting performance of 4-of-12 in the fourth quarter hurt them as the Chaps pulled away.

The first quarter saw the Grizzlies jump out to a 6-0 lead by outrebounding and holding the Chap shooters cold, only for LCU to come back and hit  three 3-pointers and finish on a 16-5 run to take a 16-14 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the Grizzlies struggle as they allowed LCU to go on an 8-0 run, capitalizing on five turnovers during the run, and give the Chaps their biggest lead of 11. Adams State closed the gap to within eight points at 39-31 at the half.

The Grizzlies came out swinging going on a 17-7 run to take the lead and jump out in front, 50-48. At the end of the quarter the game was squared away at 50-50 as senior Harmonie Dominguez scored 12 points in the third quarter alone.

The fourth quarter saw LCU score six straight points for a 56-50 advantage. Adams State didn't five up as they made a return to the bucket with some defensive stops to cut the lead to 58-57.

The Grizzlies had double digit points scored as Dominguez scored 17 points, including a 3-of-4 performance from beyond the arch while Christabel Longe scored 13 and Kayla Harris scored 12.

In the game the Grizzlies shot 43.1 percent from the field going 22-of-51 including 8-of-7 from beyond the arch and a 13-of-14 showing at the free throw line.

The Grizzlies continue on the road this weekend as they are at Cameron University for a 4:30 p.m. (MT) tipoff in the Ashbrook Comfort Inn  Suites Classic. They are then at Midwestern State University for a 5:00 p.m. (MT) tipoff on Saturday.
