DENVER, Colo. – Playing in an exhibition game against NCAA Division I's Denver Pioneers on Monday night, the Adams State University Grizzlies battled and were within two points down the final stretch before finally dropping the contest 89-93 inside Hamilton Gymnasium.
The Grizzlies jumped to a 20-18 lead before Denver went on a 12-0 run with 7:29 left in the first half to take a 30-20 lead. The Pioneers then added four points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 46-32 advantage.
Denver kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 85-78 with 1:14 to go in the contest. The Grizzlies narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over. The Pioneers were led by Tommy Bruner, who scored 37 points for the Pioneers.
Adams State was led by
Austin Fadal, who scored 15 points.
The Grizzlies will have one more exhibition game when they play at Colorado State University on Friday, Dec. 29 at 7:00 p.m.
