LUBBOCK, Texas – A complete game showing by freshman
Danielle Hood buoyed the Adams State University Softball Team to a split on Saturday at the 2023 Lubbock Sports College Invitational.
GAME 1: Adams State 5, Minot State 3
Playing against the Beavers from North Dakota for the first time in history made the first game on Saturday.
With freshman Hood in the circle, the Grizzlies surrendered a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning and a two-run home run in the bottom of the third but that was all she allowed.
The Grizzlies waited until the sixth inning to strike and
Sydney Muniz had the swing of the day as she nailed a three-run laser to center field tying the game at three.
The Grizzlies saw the game-winning run cross on a RBI single from the reigning RMAC Player of the Week
Mariah Madrid. Muniz solidified the game with an insurance run as she doubled Madrid home.
The Grizzlies had seven hits, three of which were extra base hits while Hood tossed all seven innings surrendering the three runs on five hits and six walks. She did have four strikeouts.
Game 2: #21 Lubbock Christian 9, Adams State 1 (5 inn.)
The No. 21 ranked Chaps of Lubbiock Christian dominated the Grizzlies defensively as they only allowed the Grizzlies to muster two singles while Muniz earned the lone RBI in the third inning.
Marley Cardenas was tabbed with the loss as she allowed five runs, four earned on three hits and five walks while getting one strike out.
