EDMOND, Okla. – Wrestling without two of their ranked grapplers, the Adams State University wrestling team narrowly dropped a non-conference Top-10 Dual on Friday night, 24-15.
The Grizzlies scored three upset wins, including a stunning first-period fall at 184 to pull even at 15-all, before the Bronchos closed out the day. It was the 16th straight home win for the Bronchos, who improved to 12-1 with their 31st win in the last 32 duals while dropping ASU to 10-2 but are 10-1 in the RMAC.
Adams State won just four matches but the 184-pound match was the most valuable as
Hunter Tobiasson was able to take down Alex Kauffman for a fall just before the first quarter expired. The Grizzlies saw
AJ Van Matre earn a hard fought 8-4 decision at 133 pounds before No. 3
Josiah Rider pulled out a 3-2 overtime win at 149 pounds.
Aaden Valdez won the 165-pound match 6-3.
The Grizzlies will be back in action on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. when they host CSU Pueblo in their final home dual of the season.
