ALAMOSA, Colo. -- Adams State handed Colorado State University-Pueblo a 39-6 defeat in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual meet on Wednesday night in Plachy Hall.
Adams State reeled off nine wins in a row, eight of which were in contested matches. The first of those was at 133 pounds when
Isaiah De La Cerda pinned CSU-Pueblo's Devin Lueck in 3:57. At 141 pounds,
Kieran Thompson earned a major, 8-0 decision over the ThunderWolves' Corbin Mallo.
Dylan PIckering held on to beat CSU-Pueblo's Anthony Nichols 7-3 at 149 pounds. The win evened the sophomore's record at 8-8. At 157 pounds,
Noah Hermosillo remained undefeated after a 15-0, technical fall win over CSU-P's Cyruss Meeks.
After a scoreless first two periods at 165 pounds, Adams State's
Aaden Valdez scored seven points in the span of a minute and beat CSU-Pueblo's Elijah Valdez by a 8-1 decision. The Grizzlies' streak continued at 174 pounds.
Ryan Rochford, who just transferred to ASU, pinned the ThunderWolves' Richard Palomar in 3:52.
At 184 pounds,
Hunter Tobiasson of the Grizzlies turned back the ThunderWolves' Cameron Nesbitt by a score of 7-1. At 197 pounds, Adams State's Ben Tonnessen closed out the meet with a 4-1 decision against Donn Greer. ASU's Brandon Garcia, the Grizzlies' 125-pounder, picked up a forfeit win to start the run of victories.
Adams State heads for the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at Steinhauer Fieldhouse at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.
