ALAMOSA, Colo.—Looking to finish the series before bad weather sweeps through Southern Colorado, the Adams State University Grizzly softball team battled in a twin bill against the UCCS Mountain Lions on Friday afternoon. After the dust settled, the Grizzlies were able to salvage a split at the ASU Softball Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action as UCCS won 2-1 and ASU came back and won the second game 7-6 in walkoff fashion
Game 1: UCCS 2, Adams State 1
In what was a fast game, the Grizzlies were able to hot back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the second inning from
Kaia Bradford and
Sydney Muniz for their lone run. Starting pitcher
Tayler Duncan did a stellar job in the game as she shut down the Mountain Lions until the top of the sixth inning.
In that sixth inning, an error allowed two unearned runs to cross the plate and give the Mountain Lions a 2-1 lead.
The Grizzlies won the hitting battle with five while UCCS had four with one of them being a triple that hurt the Grizzlies. Despite a stellar performance in the circle by
Tayler Duncan, that included just 79 points, the Grizzlies fell.
Game 2: Adams State 7, UCCS 6
The second game saw a scoreless first inning before the Mountain Lions scored a single run in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead after four with the Grizzlies scoring on a throwing error in the bottom of the third.
Duncan came in and shut the door on the Mountain Lions in the fifth inning before
Breck Smith came in with a two-run double and
Sydney Muniz chased her home to make the score 6-4 going to the sixth.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, a single from
Jade Garbiso set up a two-run blast By Bri Rosas to tie the game at six.
The Grizzlies then saw Smith double, missing a walk-off dinger by inches, before she was batted in in walk-off fashion.
