DENVER -- Playing in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women's Basketball semifinal for just the second time in school history, the No. 4 seeded Adams State University Grizzlies gave the No. 1 seeded Regis Rangers all they could handle on Friday night inside the Regis Fieldhouse.
With the loss the Grizzlies fall to 21-9 overall. The win total is tied for third overall as the Grizzlies posted a 23-10 record in 2010-11 and Todd Cotton's 1981-82 team went 23-4. The Grizzlies are now 2-8 all-time in the RMAC Women's Basketball Tournament.
The Grizzlies got out to a fast start, leading after the first quarter, 14-12 after both teams shot 31.3 percent (5-16) from the field. The difference maker in the first being ASU going a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.
But Regis flipped the switch in the second quarter, and came out scoring 22 points after shooting 80 percent (4-5) from three and securing nine rebounds.
The Grizzlies did not back down, however, as almost every time the Rangers scored, ASU answered with a basket of their own but were never able to overcome the Rangers' offense.
Josey Ryan, who scored a career-high 29 points, would finish the night with a career-high 29 points off a 11-for-19 (.579) shooting percentage from the field and .429 (3-7) from beyond the arc.Â
The Grizzlies were led by
Elaina Watson who scored 22 points while
Harmanie Dominguez scored 18.Â
