CHADRON, NEB. -- Chadron (Neb.) State swept an April 8 softball doubleheader from Adams State by scores of 7-0 and 10-0 in five innings.
In the opener,
Angeline Mitchell,
Breck Smith,
Marina Pro and Makanealei Laperi had ASU's base hits.
Jade Garbiso was the Grizzlies' starting pitcher. She gave up four runs and seven hits in four innings.
J'lyssa Martinez was the hitting star for the Eagles. She had two home runs, including an inside-the-park effort in the third inning. Addison Spears added a pair of hits to support the efforts of starting pitcher Tori Haug. She walked one and struck out six.
Things didn't fare much better for the Grizzlies in the nightcap. The Eagles scored in every inning and finished the contest after Mackenzi Kroll hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. She finished with two hits and six RBIs. Martinez had two hits.
ASU managed two hits in the second game. One of those was by
Kaia Bradford, and the other was off the bat of
Danielle Hood.
ASU (9-30, 6-22 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) returns to action with a home doubleheader against the Colorado School of Mines Saturday, April 15. First game starts at noon.
