ALAMOSA, Colo.—Beneath the glare of the stadium lights, the Adams State University Grizzlies celebrated Homecoming on Saturday night against Fort Lewis University, as a late touchdown followed by an interception sealed a victory, 25-24.
Zachary Survillas got the momentum started for the Grizzlies as his field goal attempt from 45 yards was good after five minutes of play.
The Skyhawks tied the game with 3:06 left In the first quarter before
Jordan Neisent rushed down the middle for 4-yards before
Connor Underhill made a complete nice pass to Neisent for a 49-yard touchdown paving the way for the Grizzlies to begin to build a lead. Adams State drove four plays for 53 yards to close out the first quarter.
ASU continued to push the boundary of the game as Underhill made a bold left pass to
Kentrell Petite for a 19-yard run to a touchdown. Braden Wingle made easy work on the enusing drivemade a pass down the middle to Zachary Gaumont for a 72-yard touchdown, which allowed the Skyhawks to begin to add some pressure to the Grizzlies.
The Skyhawks got on the board, thanks to a 32-yard run by Wingle to see them take a 17-16 lead Int the half.
The third quarter included a Skyhawks touchdown pass from Wingle to Peyton Monson (it covered two yards) to a touchdown and a 24-16 lead.
The fourth quarter closed out with
Rasheed Rankin crashing Into the endzone on the third attempt from the one yard. A failed two-point attempt saw the Grizzlies trail by two with 5:56 left.
The Grizzlies got a stop and then after 9 plays that ate up 3:20, Survillas became the hero as he nailed a 28 yard field goal to make the score 25-24. Adams State then played stellar defense and a strong catch by
Devonte Mathew Iced the game
The Grizzlies had 379 yards over the Skyhawk's 334 yards.
Connor Underhill was the top player in passing with 170 yards.
The Grizzlies hit the road for an RMAC game at Las Vegas, N.M. against New Mexico Highlands University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sep. 30
