ALAMOSA, Colo. – Despite a penalty kick goal late, the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks were able to capitalize on two unfortunate moments, resulting in a 2-1 win against the Adams State University women's soccer team on Monday afternoon at Adams State Soccer Field.
The Grizzlies were able to hold off the Skyhawks until the 30th minute for a set piece on the final third of the field resulting in a 0-1 lead for the Skyhawks (1-0-1). Shortly after halftime, the Skyhawks capitalized in the Grizzlies 18-yard box, resulting in a 0-2 lead in the 48th minute.
During the 68th minute, a foul in the Skyhawk's box resulted in a penalty kick for the Grizzlies, putting a goal on the scoreboard and making the game a 1-2.
The Skyhawk's first goal came from Josie Coulter, assisted by Jenna Salazar. The Skyhawk's second goal was by Abila Tapia, assisted by Haley Stafford. The Grizzlies' only goal was from a penalty kick by
Karlee Caballero.
It was a tough day for the Grizzlies, but they will return to the pitch this Sunday at West Texas A&M University.
