WBB | Grizzlies extend winning streak to eight

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Despite facing a 15-rebound deficit, including a 20-11 margin on offensive boards, the Adams State University women's basketball team secured their eighth consecutive win of the season by capitalizing on 28 turnovers, resulting in 27 points off turnovers. The final score stood at 69-60 in favor of the Grizzlies over Black Hills State University on Friday night, hosted inside the Donald E. Young Center Fieldhouse.

With this win, the Grizzlies maintain an unblemished 6-0 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and improve their overall record to 11-3. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets drop to a 3-3 RMAC record and a 6-4 overall mark. This eighth consecutive victory brings the team within one win of matching the school record set between Feb. 4, 2011, and Mar. 1, 2011, when they secured nine straight wins.

The opening quarter witnessed the Grizzlies taking a commanding 21-12 lead, capitalizing on a 60 percent shooting performance, connecting on nine field goals, including two shots beyond the arch.

Haylee Weathersby led the Yellow Jackets in the first half with 10 points and seven offensive rebounds, as the second quarter favored Black Hills State, outscoring Adams State 19-14 and narrowing the deficit to just four points at 35-31.

Despite a effort from Black Hills State, the Grizzlies closed the third quarter on a 9-2 run, establishing a 13-point advantage at 54-41.

In the final quarter, Black Hills State attempted a comeback, outscoring the Grizzlies 19-15, but fell short in the end.

Harmanie Dominguez demonstrated consistency in scoring, scoring 24 points despite being limited to two three-pointers as she hit ten shots from the field. Kiiyani Anitielu contributed 13 points, while Kayla Harris and Riri Davis each scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Looking ahead, Adams State aims to extend their winning streak on Saturday as they travel to Rapid City, S.D., to face the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers.
