GUNNISON, Colo. – The Adams State University Wrestling team swept their duals at the 33rd Tracy Borah Duals held inside the Mountaineer Fieldhouse. The first duals of the season were non-conference duals.
Adams State 45, Findlay 6
The Grizzlies were immediately ahead as they Adams State dominated Findlay in the first dual.
Isaiah Gamez in the 125-pound class,
Angel Flores in the 141-pound class,
Hunter Tobiasson in the 184-pound class, and Ben Tonnessen in the 197-pound class all claimed their respective wins via forfeit.
At 133 pounds, Dale Van Matre secured a 7-3 decision over Gavin Ritter, while in the 149-pound class,
Travis Vialpando garnered a 15-5 major decision over Mason Kleinberg.
The 157-pound bout saw Nico Carrasco earn a convincing 11-3 major decision over Logan Sansom while
Aaden Valdez dominated the 165-pound match securing a victory over Gary Nilson with a fall at the 5:00 mark.
Samuel Loera won the 174-pound match defeating Kenny Snyder with a 12-3 major decision.
In a reversal of fortune for Findlay, Giulian Bodiu secured a victory in the 285-pound class, pinning
Wil Aucoin (Adams State) with a fall at 3:54.
Adams State 31, Minot State 14
The Grizzlies jumped out to an early lead at 184 pounds as Tobiasson defeated Cayden White with a technical fall, 15-0.
The 197-pound class witnessed a quick turnaround as Cannon Potts earned a 1:11 fall over Tonnessen.
In the heavyweight division, Jake Swirple managed to give the Beavers a bigger lead as he earned a 14-4 major decision over Aucoin.
Gamez continued his weekend winning streak for his team in the 125-pound class, defeating Logen Fischer with a major decision of 9-0.
Wayne Joint responded in the 133-pound class, securing a major decision with a score of 15-5 over Van Matre.
Flores won the 141-pound match with a major decision, 14-1 over Ethan Wonser to start the comeback and a streak of five straight wins. The 149-pound class showcased
Elijah Olguin securing another major decision, 11-0, over Isaac Ortega.
Carrasco continued the momentum with a technical fall victory, 18-3, over Kasius Graham in the 157-pound class. Valdez won the 165-pound class with a 17-1 technical fall over Brendan Barnes before Loera rounded out the action with an 11-0 major decision over Kale Farrington.

The Grizzlies will make their home debut on Friday at 6:00 p.m. when they host Colorado Mesa University for their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) dual. They will then travel to another nation to take on the Red Leafs of Simon Frasier and San Francisco State in RMAC duals on Saturday, Jan. 20.
