Alamosa, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies (4-10, 2-3 RMAC) delivered a commanding performance against New Mexico Highlands (2-10, 1-4 RMAC) on Tuesday evening, sweeping the Cowgirls in straight sets (25-15, 25-13, 25-20) at Plachy Hall.
Led by Anna Huggins' 12 kills and .286 hitting percentage, the Grizzlies displayed impressive offensive efficiency, hitting .246 as a team compared to the Cowgirls' .028. Hadleigh Richardson and Katie Bauer added nine and seven kills, respectively, contributing to a season-high hitting percentage for Adams State.
The Grizzlies came out strong, overpowering New Mexico Highlands in the first set with a 25-15 win. The Cowgirls struggled to find rhythm, hitting -.053. Adams State capitalized on their opponent's errors and kept the momentum going into the second set, winning 25-13.
The third set was more competitive, with the Cowgirls finding some footing. However, the Grizzlies remained composed, closing out the match 25-20 with strong blocking and defense. Adams State recorded 62 digs, led by Sierra Leone Sanchez's 10, while setter Remi Vargas added 17 assists to lead the offense.
"We played a complete game and stayed engaged from the first serve to the final point. Our intention and preparation for this match were at a season high, and I think the results showed that. But we'd like to see our celebratory pushes be a little less violent in the future," said Head Coach Garcia Ramser.
The Grizzlies will be back in action on Friday when they take on Fort Lewis at home at 6 p.m.
